Notary Authentication Of Acts

To help protect persons named in important documents, the notary must verify the identity of the signer, make sure the person signing the document understands the document, that they are signing as their own free act and deed, and that the document has been completely filed in. Once the notary has performed these tasks the notary will authenticate the document and effective form an agreement between the parties involved that the notarized document is the only authentic document intended to be given full force and effect.

A notary public authenticates the notarial act by placing on the document being notarized:

  • Their notary seal
  • Their official signature
  • Their printed name and commission expiration under their official signature
  • A completed notary certificate
